Back again after a long gap term! Let´s start the New Year enjoying the talent of three young writers.

These short stories, no longer than 150 words, were written by 2 ESO students to be told on a Halloween night. They had to follow one of the inspirational starting sentences below to write their stories:

a. On a foggy night, the silhouette of a skinny man stood out against the wall...
b. A beam of moonlight was illuminating the wooden box when suddenly...
c. The house on the hill was old and gloomy...

The Well

On a foggy night, the silhouette of a skinny man stood out against the wall. It was Halloween day, his house was the only one with no decoration. After seeing what was going on with all that noise outside he entered his home. “Stupid kids” he though. “They´re always disturbing”. John sat on his sofa, and covered his face with his hands.

“Why me? It wasn´t my fault!”, he whispered. John remembered that day, another Halloween night, when the shadow of Mere came into his house and she followed him wherever he went. Mere was a girl aged 13 who loved Halloween. And the Halloween night of 1998 she was going to meet with her friends at the forest to tell spooky stories.

John was an old man which the most fun thing he had to do on Halloween was to walk his dog. He was walking along the path of the forest when suddenly his dog run away and John tried to follow him, he ran all he could: bumping into tree branches and leaves but he didn´t notice that he hit a girl. That was a huge mistake.

Mere was walking when she found a well and she sat on top of it to take a break, suddenly someone pushed her and she fell into it. She tried to get out, but after 5 days trying to escape her death came. She could only see that a man pushed her when she fell and now Mere´s spirit follows that man still looking for revenge.”

John thought that his life didn´t have any meaning, he was going crazy and that girl would never leave him alone, he didn´t know why she was following him but after 15 years trying to get rid of her, he realized he couldn´t.  It was her revenge, she wanted him to die. John decided to stop the suffering, he took his gun, pointed to his head and shot himself.

The Wooden Box

A beam of moonlight was illuminating the wooden box when suddenly a hair-raising scream came out of it and burst in the silence and darkness of the night. All the human beings in the nearest villages were paralyzed with fright and a minute later people carrying torches started to appear in the clearing of the forest where the box was supposed to be.

At that moment, the moon was covered with terrifying shadows and the trees started shaking strongly. The elderly women in the clearing grabbed strongly their husbands, who trembled, thinking about the scream they just heard. The children hid behind their mothers who also grabbed their husbands. No one was brave enough to open the cursed box. All of a sudden, a hiss was heard and all the torches were blown out. Some people went down the hill and jumped into the cold waters of the sea and all the children were crying with fear. Most of the women claimed that they had just seen hidden demons behind the trees. And there, standing alone facing the box was me.

The hours passed and no other threatening danger sings appeared. People started to calm down and they all got asleep there in the clearing. I was the only one who couldn’t sleep so I encouraged myself and opened the box. A second hair-raising scream came out of it. I will never forget what I saw inside. I started running the fastest I could until I got tired and fell asleep. As far as I know, no one survived and nobody was aware of the danger the horrific thing I released entailed. And now, every night I feel as if all the souls of all those innocent people came to my house trying to take revenge on me.

Real Nightmares

The house on the hill was old and gloomy, dark shadows danced on the walls and a thick fog over the grass made the view even scarier. It was 31st of October, Halloween. Small children walked on the streets going from door to door, asking for yummy sweets. They didn’t miss any door… except one. “The House on the Hill” was an abandoned house since 1987, the year when his owner died in strange circumstances.

Anyone in the whole town knew the real story of what happened, but there was one thing for sure: that house was haunted. Timmy and his friend Steve were going to enter The House on the Hill to show people how brave they were. They all knew how dangerous that house was, and how much Timmy and Steve were afraid of it.

Steve was the first to enter the house while Timmy waited outside. 10 minutes passed and Steve didn’t return. There was a piercing scream from inside the house. “Steve!” said Timmy while entering the house without thinking twice. The house was silent; the only sound you could hear was the agitated breathing of Timmy. He inspected the entire house in search of Steve but, when he was looking in the kitchen, a noise made terror install in Timmy’s heart. “No, no, no…” he murmured while trying to open the recently locked front door. That was the last thing Timmy said. The night continued being silent except for the little agonizing screams of a small child trapped in his worst and last nightmare.
